Abstract

The role of the principal or madrasa is an important figure in everything related to the success of education in his institution. Realizing strategic innovation is supported by an open mind to any change, which means that as a visionary leader, you must be able to find new ways outside of the usual practice. In any field, people who are used to doing things according to general habits, it is certain that the method used is the usual way, so that it may die before it develops. The background of the existing program at MTsN 2 Ponorogo based on Law no. 22 of 1999 concerning Regional Government and the implementation of school-based management (SBM) in education policies and reforms, hereby changes the educationalparadigm from centralized to decentralized, from a bureaucratic, hierarchical, to democratic education delivery pattern. Referring to these rules, MTsN 2 Ponorogo seeks various changes from traditional education to international education. This study aimsto identify superior programs as the embodiment of competitive madrasas. This research uses a qualitative approach and a case study research design. The results of the study indicate the success of MTsN 2 Ponorogo in fostering students' talents and interests making it a superior madrasa that is considered by the community, seen from: a) Achievement of the institution's accreditation score with the predicate A; b) Improving the quality of students' attitudes through ma'had activities and habituation of gooddaily behavior; c) Increasing student achievement, both academically and non-academicly, besides that the quality of graduates can be taken into account; d) Procurement of superior programs; and e) Curriculum innovation.
