Abstract

As a result of the influence of modernity, the culture becomes hedonistic and capitalist,
so that the character of most students in higher education is actually degenerated.
Likewise, in an organization, character plays an important role for the progress of
the organization, especially the character of responsibility. This article describes the
implementation of the leadership of the student self-defense activity unit in developing
the character of responsibility at IAIN Ponorogo. Data collection techniques used
interviews, observations, and documentation with data analysis, namely data
reduction, data presentation, and data withdrawal to draw conclusions from the
collected data. The values of responsibility character developed in the Student Self�Defense Unit include the character of personal responsibility such as maintaining self�respect by saying and behaving well, keeping promises, having commitments to tasks
in the form of maintaining infrastructure, admitting all actions when making mistakes,
keeping promises. , must have the courage to take risks, be honest, trustworthy, convey
kindness, and be intelligent, while the character of social responsibility such as always
speaking the truth, avoiding envy, being fair and not arrogant. The implementation
applied in the Student Self- D efense Unit includes: work programs consisting of
organizational schools, routine TC, spiritual dialogue and setting a good example by
showing the administrators good attitudes or actions so that they can be examples
for members. The impact of implementing leadership in developing the character of
responsibility in the Self-Defense Student Activity Unit, namely: having a positive
impact, because apart from being good at pencak silat, they also have good character
attitudes, especially the character of responsibility towards themselves and socially and
also the impact is felt every change of tenure with an increase in work programs that
were not previously implemented to be implemented
