Abstract

This study proves the truth of the theory of Arnold Toynbee (1889-1975) that, the civilized world will not collapse by conquest from without, but by moral decay from within.
Similarly, the crisis of modernity is caused by spiritual poverty as the result of human exploitation which merely satisfies the demands of market mechanism (Fromm, 2004:
27-28; Schact, 2005: 60; Maarif 1993: 23, 29). For that religion is a panacea therapy for people with modernity crisis (Berger, 1994; Pals, 2003). The results of this casuistic research indicate that the rational motives of
Mafia Shalawat's action are to anticipate the negative excesses of modernization and globalization affecting the morality, psychology, health, social, and ideology of the
Indonesian state, through the planting of spiritual values, the ideology of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah (ASWAJA), the love of the young generation of Negara Kesatuan Republik
Indonesia (NKRI). Mafia Shalawat as a local wisdom is able to survive and has a clear market because it is packed in popular culture trends and accommodative and responsive to
tradition.
