Abstract

Industrial era as an objective reality, which pesantren community have faced so far, is seen as both oppurtunity and threat all at once. In the middle of the democratization and transparancy climate, pesantren's community have the same opportuniy as others to participate in this field for economic motives or other transcendent motives. On the other hand, the institution and tradition of pesantren have been also
challenged to which extent they have sensibility to the realities of this era in order that they are still populist in nature. This paper deals with the strategic steps which should be taken by pesantrens in response of the challenge of both globalization in economy and industrialization.
